This summer, a group of Tufts Hillel undergraduates traveled to Rwanda on a Short-Term Service Program organized by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) to the Agahozo Shalom Youth Village. Agahozo-Shalomm, a special project of JDC, is an innovative village an innovative village and high school that provides a home and education for orphans of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Agahozo-Shalom provides three meals a day, world-class instruction and family-structured living that the youths previously lacked. Most importantly, the village has provided the students with hope for their future.
Our group had an incredibly powerful experience during our trip, traveling around Rwanda visiting genocide memorials and national sites and spending time with Agahozo-Shalom students playing sports, dancing, singing and learning about one another. Now that we are back at Tufts, we are inspired to stay connected to the students at Agahozo-Shalom and help to sustain the program.
Race4Rwanda, a 5K run around Tufts University’s Medford/Somerville campus, is all about supporting the students at Agahozo Shalom and two very important local community organizations.
We would LOVE to see you there!
