Tufts Hillel supports an active Conservative community. The group comes together to explore their understanding of Jewishness, to offer and get support, to learn and grow together, and to seek meaning in their lives in the Conservative tradition.
Weekly egalitarian Shabbat services include Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’ariv on Friday night followed by dinner and dessert with the whole community, as well as an intimate Saturday morning minyan including Torah reading. All services are student run and student organized. We also hold well-attended services for the major holidays throughout the year, including the High Holidays, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Purim and Pesach.
The student leaders of our Conservative services draw from a range of traditions. Some are new to the ritual and others are familiar with Shlomo Carlebach, United Synagogue Youth (USY), and Camp Ramah. The student-led services build community and unite everyone with spirited singing, familiar customs, and wonderful melodies.
